Research Ireland New Foundations 2024 Awards

Congratulations to the 11 DCU researchers who have been successful in securing Research Ireland New Foundations 2024 awards.  For this call DCU secured the highest number of awards out of all research performing organisations and HEIs in Ireland. 

The DCU awardees and successful projects include: 

  • Dr Kathleen Stokes (School of History and Geography) for the project “A Wasted Transition? Community-based circular economy opportunities for renewable energy infrastructure repair and recovery work ”
  • Paula Lehane (School of Inclusive and Special Education) for the project “What do Irish teachers know about dyslexia?”
  • Prof. Robert Gillanders (DCU Business School) for the project “Tracking Corruption Experiences and Attitudes in Ireland and Northern Ireland ”
  • Dr Marlene McCormack (School of Language, Literacy and Early Childhood Education) for the project “Enhancing Civic Society: Towards alternative community -based models of early childhood education and care (ECEC)”
  • Dr Valesca Lima (School of Law and Government) for the project “Safeguarding Licensees ’ Rights in Ireland ’s Rental Sector”
  • Dr Louise Fitzgerald (School of Law and Government) for the project “Acknowledging and Leveraging Emotions for successful and just Renewable Transitions”
  • Dr Saumava Mitra (School of Applied Language and Intercultural Studies) for the project “Digital Sensitivity and Security for Exile Networking and Tracking”
  • Dr Iker Erdocia (School of Applied Language and Intercultural Studies) for the project “Understanding and countering dis/misinformation from a multilingual perspective”
  • Prof. Mathias Urban (School of Language, Literacy and Early Childhood Education) for the project “From marketised models to competent systems for the public good - an interdisciplinary response to critical questions of early childhood education and care in Ireland”
  • Dr Fiona Murphy (School of Applied Language and Intercultural Studies) for the project “Urban Market Matriarchs: Sustaining Livelihoods and Inclusion for Third -Age Female Street Traders in Vientiane and Dublin”
  • Dr Jonathan Cherry (School of History and Geography) for the project “Minor placenames in Ireland: promoting and facilitating ‘citizen humanities ’ in safeguarding intangible cultural heritage”
