DCU Research and Innovation Support are pleased to launch this internal call, which offers co-funding to help academics release existing PI reserve funds in a manner which helps grow our PhD numbers.
PhD scholarships in any discipline / school in DCU will be supported by this call. Applicants can be individuals, or groups/ schools/ centres and applicants can provide their share of the co-funding from an existing balance in a DCU “P” or “S” sub-cost, including personal research accounts, or from a new commitment from an external source. Co-funding cannot be provided from normal annual School / Faculty budgets (sub-costs starting with the letter “D”).

Applications will be ranked on the following two criteria:
1. Strategic fit with DCU research (50 marks)
2. The percentage of co-funding offered by the applicant (50 marks)

The Irish Research Council is participating in the latest HERA (Humanities in the European Research Area) call: Crisis – Perspectives from the Humanities.
A summary of the key call details are below:
Project team: The team should be composed of at least four and a maximum of six Principal Investigators, i.e. partners, eligible to receive funding from four or more different countries participating in the call
Project duration: 24-36 months
Funding per project: up to a maximum amount of €1.5 million (across all partners)
Timelines:
- Deadline for outline proposals: September 21st, 2023, 14.00 CET
- Deadline for invited full proposals: March 26th, 2024, 14.00 CET
The goal of the Crisis call is to promote diversity in research. When building research consortia, applicants are strongly encouraged to take into account the following aspects:
- Gender balance
- Academic age balance
- Geographical diversity – inclusion of Widening countries participating in the Call*
- Knowledge exchange and impact

The Azrieli International Postdoctoral Fellowship has officially launched the Call for Applications for the 2024–25 academic year, and is open to applicants from all around the world.
The fellowship provides significant funding, academic programming, and support to 24 international postdoctoral researchers, enabling them to carry out research in exact sciences, life sciences, humanities, and social sciences at eligible Israeli academic institutions. The value is approximately ILS 188,000 per year, which includes funds reserved for research and travel.

The details regarding the 2023 SFI Research Infrastructure Programme have now been launched by SFI. The Programme supports the research community in building and sustaining the required infrastructural capacity to accomplish high-quality, high-impact and innovative research in areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics that demonstrably enhance and support enterprise competitiveness and societal development in Ireland.
This year the SFI Research Infrastructure Programme includes a co-funding partnership with the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI). This partnership is based on alignments to research topics that are of particular significance to SEAI’s research objectives.
Budget
Applications to the SFI Research Infrastructure Programme 2023 will have a minimum budget request of €500,000 direct costs. An additional 10% cash cost share is mandatory in all applications; therefore the total infrastructure cost must be at least €550,000. There is no maximum budget request.
Internal Selection
For the 2023 Research Infrastructure call, each eligible Research Body in the Republic of Ireland may submit applications from a maximum of six Lead Applicants employed at that Research Body. There will therefore be an internal selection process to determine the DCU candidates who will then proceed to full application submission to SFI.

The completed Expression of Interest (EoIs) forms must be submitted to research@dcu.ie by 5pm on 14th June 2023. It is expected that each Lead PI make a brief strategic focussed presentation to the Internal review panel. The presentations will be held on the 20th June from 2-4pm as part of the internal review process.

The Irish Cancer Society (ICS) wishes to invite research teams led by eligible allied health professionals (AHP) to submit an application for the Allied Health Professional Cancer Research Award 2023.
The aim of this award is to stimulate, develop, and support allied health cancer research in the Republic of Ireland. As such, this award will fund an AHP-led partnership-based research project between an allied health professional and an academic researcher. AHP-academic partnerships encourage research that is of the highest quality and clinical relevance, while expediting the translation of research into practice.
This is intended to be a transformative investment in an AHP who demonstrates great potential in driving and leading clinically relevant and innovative cancer research in Ireland. This research will focus on areas which will impact positively on patient care outcomes and should be aligned to the National Cancer Strategy 2017-2026 and the Irish Cancer Society Strategy 2020-2025.
Funding:
The maximum total funding available is €75,000 for a project of 12 to 24 months in duration.

All applications must be submitted through the ICS grant management system.

The Marine Institute is pleased to announce a pilot call for proposals for Research for Policy Awards that aims to delivery policy relevant information in a timely manner. Government Department or Agencies have identified policy topics or questions where there is a current knowledge gap that can be addressed through accelerated research.
The Marine Institute are seeking applications for four topics under this call. Proposals are invited from eligible legal entities (national, EU or international) with the appropriate scientific and technical qualifications and research expertise, and can be for up to 12 months in duration.

The 2024 round of Emerging Investigator Awards will be launched on 13th June 2023.
The Emerging Investigator Awards (EIA) scheme supports talented individuals who can make a valuable contribution to knowledge in health research and who are capable of becoming independent and self-directed investigators. The Health Research Board (HRB) is specifically seeking individuals who are passionate about the application of knowledge in improving healthcare systems, policies, or practice.
The HRB will provide the salary of the Lead Applicant (up to a maximum equal to Level 3.4 on the IUA salary scale) plus research-related costs (up to a maximum of €300K) and overheads.
The call features a two-stage application process and the closing date for pre-applications is 14th September 2023. Successful applicants will join a growing community of DCU EIA awardees.
