The IRC Ulysses call launched on 15th February and the submission deadline for applications is 4pm on 11th April 2024.
The Ulysses scheme is aimed at fostering new collaborations between Ireland and France-based researchers by providing seed funding for reciprocal travel visits. The scheme thus facilitates the exchange of innovative ideas and approaches across all disciplines.
Selected research projects will also be supported by the following strategic partners:
- Electricity transmission system operator EirGrid will partner with France-based Réseau de Transport d’Électricité to support suitably aligned research projects in the area of renewable energies and smart grids.
- The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland and ADEME, the French Environment and Energy Management Agency, will provide support to research projects exploring topics relating to energies.
Awards will be up to a maximum of €5,000 each to Ireland and France-based research partner(s) to cover travel and living expenses. These awards are simultaneously receivable and must be used by end of the 2025 calendar year.
Please note all applications to the Ulysses call are required to be submitted via the Research Office. The deadline for submitting the applications on TORA is 4th April.

Please note that the deadline for the SFI Frontiers for the Future Programme (Projects stream) has been extended to 17th May 2024 at 1:00pm (Dublin local time). The TORA deadline is 9th May 2024.

The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM), in partnership with the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) and InterTradeIreland have launched a new funding opportunity.
The Shared Island Bioeconomy Demonstration Initiative is a new funding mechanism that will support bioeconomy piloting and demonstration actions across Ireland and Northern Ireland. The Call has a total fund of €9 million. This will support two projects - one agri-bioeconomy and one blue-bioeconomy - to a maximum value of €4.5 million each.
This funding mechanism is of relevance to stakeholders along the entire bio-based value chain, including Research Performing Organisations, as well as SMEs, local authorities, primary producers, and others.
Furthermore, two information events have been organised for interested parties and prospective applicants. These events will include presentations by experts from DAFM and DAERA, as well as an opportunity for attendees to ask questions to an expert panel or via one-to-one clinics.

The Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellowship call is due to open on the 10th of April and the application deadline is on the 11th September 2024.
The MSCA Postdoc call would be of particular interest to DCU academics who wish to attract excellent international postdoctoral researchers to DCU.
The MSCA postdoctoral fellowships offer attractive scholarships and also include training and networking budget for the awardees and their mentors.
There are two types of fellowships:

European Postdoctoral Fellowships are open to researchers of any nationality and will be held in DCU. This fellowship is open to researchers either coming to Europe or moving within Europe for a period of 12 to 24 months.

Global Postdoctoral Fellowships are open to EU nationals or long-term residents. This action enhances the international dimension of European researchers’ career by financing research project to be carried out in two different countries. This action is based on a secondment to a non-associated third country (from 12 to 24 months) and a mandatory 12 month return period to DCU.
The specific eligibility criteria for the applicants are:

The researcher must hold a PhD degree or should have successfully defended doctoral thesis at the deadline for the submission of proposals.

The researcher may be of any nationality.

The researcher must comply with the following mobility rule: the researcher must not have resided or carried out the main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of the host organisation for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the deadline for submission of proposals. Compulsory national service and/or short stays such as holidays are not taken into account.

The researcher cannot be more than 8 years post PhD at the call deadline.
