The Central Bank has recently launched a Research Engagement Programme aligned with its Strategic Plan. Its research agenda focuses on policy effectiveness, anticipating economic shifts, and employing innovative methodologies. It is structured around four key themes (globalisation, climate change, behaviour, digitalisation), and addresses critical aspects of Ireland's economic and financial landscape. The research agenda aims to contribute to knowledge advancement through collaboration with external researchers and Euro system partners.
The Bank is currently inviting applicants for the Research Affiliate and Visiting Scholar programmes, while other programmes are open for applications throughout the year.
The range of data that has been and will continue to be made available by the Bank may be of particular interest to DCU researchers. Data and commentary published to date covers areas such as credit and deposits developments, mortgage arrears, interest rates, investment funds, securities markets developments, quarterly financial accounts and the National Claims Information Database.
The Bank is currently completing its Research Data Catalogue, offering concise details on available research datasets in the organization. It will feature straightforward descriptions, promoting awareness and transparency, and inspiring collaborative research aligned with the Central Bank of Ireland's agenda.
The information session is open to all researchers and will allow time for Bank staff to explain their programmes in more detail, and for Q&A with interested researchers.
To register, please email researchexchange@centralbank.ie with “Webinar” in the subject bar, and you will receive a webex link in the days leading up to the event.

DCU’s Research Development Team is delighted to invite you to our 2024 Grant Writing Workshop Series. This series is suitable for researchers of all disciplines (post-PhD) who are seeking to improve their grant writing skills and increase their competitiveness in research funding. It consists of eight interactive workshops, each of which will focus on key sections of a typical grant application. The details for our first three workshops are outlined below.
Workshop 1: 'Developing Your Idea for Research Funding' took place on April 23rd.
Workshop 2:
Title: Abstract Writing for Grant Proposals
Date: Monday 13th May 2024
Time: 11:00am - 1:00pm
Venue: Online
Description:
The abstract is critical for funding applications. It should be tailored to the funder and call, and gives you the opportunity to summarise the expected project outcomes, impact, and alignment with policies, answering the questions: Why this project? Why now? Why you? Whether you start with the abstract and build out from it, revising it again prior to submission, or if you write the abstract towards the end of proposal preparation, its importance should not be underestimated. This workshop will outline the difference between lay and scientific abstracts; it will help you to identify important things to include, providing examples relevant to national funding schemes and Horizon Europe; and it will give you the confidence to critically look at your proposal and identify the key points to include in the abstract.

Date: Wednesday 12th June 2024
Time: 11:00am - 1:00pm
