The European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST) is a European intergovernmental framework which funds interdisciplinary research networks. These networks, called COST Actions, provide open spaces where researchers and innovators can connect, collaborate, and build their ideas together.
There are two ways of joining the COST programme:
- Participate in an existing COST Action: During their lifetime, Actions provide opportunities to get involved in their activities through Training Schools, Short-term Scientific Missions, workshops, conferences, etc. You can also become a working group member or a Management committee member. Search for Actions and research areas that you are interested in via the Browse Actions.
- Submit a proposal for a COST Action: If you have searched the Actions on the website and can't find any in your field you may consider proposing your own COST Action Network. If you’re looking to build or fund an international network in a new research area, or combine disciplines to look at existing challenges from a new perspective, then a COST Action might be a good next step. The COST Open Call is for new COST Actions, which cover the expenses of networking activities (not research). The Network of Proposers must include at least seven different COST Full or Cooperating Members, amongst which at least 50% shall be from COST Inclusiveness Target Countries.
DCU Information Session and Contact Point:
Research Support held an online information session in May on the EU COST Action. COST National coordinator David Flood, call manager Christina Rushe and current Vice Chair of a COST Action Yvonne Daly presented giving a broad overview of the call and how to join. If you want to receive a recording of this session or have any further queries regarding COST, please email Dr Christina Rushe (christina.rushe@dcu.ie)
