Call Title: HEA North-South Research Programme 2024
DCU Internal EoI deadline: 13th November 2024
HEA EoI deadline: 28th November 2024
HEA Full Application deadline: 27th February 2025
The Higher Education Authority (HEA) has launched the North-South Research Programme 2024. The call is open to researchers across all disciplines and career stages and is designed to increase research collaboration between Ireland and Northern Ireland. This iteration of the call is focused on emerging hubs of excellence and partnerships of scale, with awards of up to €4M and duration of 4 years. It's an excellent opportunity to build on existing relationships with Northern Ireland colleagues.
The timelines for this call are tight and internal deadlines and processes are in place within DCU and Northern Ireland institutions. Therefore, all DCU applicants are advised to contact their prospective Northern Ireland partners as soon as possible.
Note that both the University of Ulster and Queen's University Belfast are implementing internal commitment deadlines in the first week of November, so if you haven't secured your partnership by then you will not be able to apply.
An internal DCU EoI process is in place for this call. The DCU EoI template was circulated via an all-staff email. A copy can also be obtained by requesting it from research@dcu.ie.
Any DCU staff member who wishes to apply must complete the short EoI form and submit it to research@dcu.ie by Wednesday, 13th November, using the subject heading "HEA NSRP 24 DCU EoI [Your Own Name]".
Further details on the call can be found on the HEA call webpage here.
If you have any queries, please send them to research@dcu.ie, including HEA NSRP in the subject heading.
Call Title: HRB Summer Studentships
TORA deadline: 5th December 2024
Call deadline: 12th December 2024
The Health Research Board Summer Student Scholarships support undergraduate students in health or social care-related disciplines to complete short research projects during the summer. The purpose of the scholarship scheme is to encourage an interest in research and give students an opportunity to become familiar with research techniques.
The HRB will make an award to a host institution nominated in the application. Summer Scholars will be paid €400 per week for a minimum of six and a maximum of eight weeks by the host institution.
In line with the HRB strategy, the project must fall within one of the following research areas: patient-oriented and clinical research, health services research or population health research.
These scholarships are a great opportunity for students to gain their first experience of research as a career, develop valuable skills, and place themselves in a favourable position to apply for postgraduate funding awards. Supervisors have also found them to be very positive in terms of building their own funding track record and supervision experience and developing research projects and ideas.
The feedback from awardees each year, both students and supervisors, has always been extremely positive, with both finding the experience enjoyable and rewarding. You can find out more about this years’ awardees in the September issue of the Research Newsletter, which featured a spotlight on this year’s projects and awardees.
DCU has a high success rate in this call and we would encourage anyone working in the health or social care-related areas to consider applying.
