Current role: Clinical Specialist Pain Management

Course: Professional Doctorate in Elite Performance (Sport)

Why did you choose the program?

I was motivated to conduct research that could translate directly into clinical practice. I want to help improve healthcare settings for both staff working in them and individuals accessing healthcare facilities. Being able to work in a clinical setting and complete this research simultaneously is supporting my goal of translating research into practice.

How does the format of the program fit with your practice?

The taught modules allow me to prepare for research in year two onwards but simultaneously have a direct impact on my current professional practice. The modules are designed to enhance your professional practice from year one.

How would you describe the role and impact of your peers on your development?

The program has brought together a diverse group of professionals from a number of varying backgrounds. Having the opportunity to work with individuals from high level settings in sport, healthcare and coaching has created both a supportive environment and a space for sharing ideas and skills that would have been lost on a more traditional PhD route.
