Athletic Therapy and Training Student Jack Kearney Receives Prestigious Bursary 

We are thrilled to acknowledge that Jack Kearney, a third‑year student in our Athletic Therapy and Training programme, has been awarded the Active Sotuh Dublin Emerging Talent Bursary, funded through Sport Ireland. As an international weightlifter representing Ireland on the world stage, Jack’s dedication to his sport and his academic pursuits exemplifies the spirit of excellence we nurture here at the School of Health and Human Performance.

The Emerging Talent Bursary Scheme, administered by Active South Dublin and South Dublin County Council, is designed to support individual athletes who are competing at national, European, or international levels. It provides financial assistance to cover costs associated with training, travel, accommodation, equipment, and necessary medical expenses—critical supports that enable athletes to pursue top‑level competition without undue financial strain.

Through this award, Jack will receive essential funding to:

• Enhance Training: Access to specialized coaching camps and high‑performance facilities
• Cover Travel & Accommodation: Expenses for international competitions and qualifying events
• Upgrade Equipment: State‑of‑the‑art weightlifting gear tailored to Jack’s competitive needs
• Support Sports Medicine: Necessary physiotherapy, recovery modalities, and medical monitoring

This support will allow Jack to focus fully on refining his technique, increasing his totals, and representing both DCU and Ireland with distinction on the global weightlifting stage.
