DCU SHHP students shine at National Smarter Travel Student Awards

Students from the School of Health & Human Performance swapped the lecture hall for the Lighthouse Cinema, Smithfield on 24 April 2025, where they pitched their ideas for greener, more active commuting at the National Transport Authority (NTA) Smarter Travel Student Awards finals. The annual competition challenges third-level students nationwide to devise projects that “support, facilitate and/or enable sustainable and active travel modes to, from and on campus” National Transport.

This year eight DCU teams—all drawn from the first-year module SPO1028: Physical Activity Psychology, led by Dr. Hannah Goss —earned coveted places in the national finals. The module spans three undergraduate programmes (BSc Sports Science & Health, BSc PE with Biology, and BSc PE with Mathematics), with the group effort bringing together a rich mix of perspectives on behaviour change and transport policy.

Congratulations to everyone involved for championing smarter, healthier ways to move. We look forward to sharing the full list of winners once the NTA releases the official results.
