Damini Mantri, Biomedical Engineering
Why you chose DCU?
I chose to come to Ireland because it is home to 15 of the 20 medical technology companies in the world; DCU specifically because their degree program is more practical in terms of lab work. The internship placement program in the third year will also be very helpful in employment opportunities upon graduation.
One unique part of your course
It is an interesting and modern course. It is a mix of engineering, health care and the life sciences. We basically apply the principles we learn from engineering to the human body.
Best thing about DCU so far?
It would have to be the Clubs and socs. There is a club or a society for almost everything and you have the option to experiment with activities you never thought you'd do. For example scuba diving in donegal. Sign me up.
Plans after DCU?
I plan on working in a research centre to help advance prosthetics or artificial body organs and make it affordable to disabled people.
