Why you chose to study in DCU?

I chose DCU to study because it was the only college that offered such a unique and well respected course.

One unique part about your course that you like

Communication studies is unique because it not only involves a combination of theory and practical work, but it explores every aspect of the media to give its students a chance to explore as many career paths as possible.

Best thing about DCU experience so far

The best part of my DCU experience so far was society life. I got elected as first year rep for the Media Production Society in my first year of studies and it made me have an unforgettable year. From getting to host my own events within DCU, being on our student radio, stage managing a playor DCU Drama and getting involved with inter-society events I realised that the work that goes into society life in DCU is truly like no other college. At our annual clubs and society awards, I won fresher of the year and went on to win best fresher at the BICS awards (Board of Irish College Societies). This just shows you how much you can achieve in DCU if you put the effort in.

Advice you would give to your younger self thinking of what to do/ where to go

The best advice I would give my younger self in terms of what to do/where to go in college is to not let your fears or doubts get in the way of what you want to do. I almost didn’t put down my course because of my public speaking fear. I could not speak in front of a small crowds before I got to DCU.

From doing my course and getting so involved in society life, I have gained so much confidence and what was once my dreaded public speaking fear is now a distant memory.
