Why you chose to study in DCU?

After my Leaving Cert, I wasn't completely sure what course I wanted to do. I decided to do a post Leaving Cert course  (PLC) in Journalism and Digital Media. I loved it and started attending a lot of different open days and researched a lot of different options. However, after I came out of a Journalism  talk at an open day, I knew DCU would be the best place for me if I wanted a career in any type of media. I also instantly fell in love with the professional TV studio, college newspaper and radio studio!

One unique part about your course that you like

I love how in my course we have such a diverse range of modules. It really helps students explore different areas of journalism, and as a result, gives students wide career options when they leave DCU. From politics, radio, video, or law, you leave with skills and knowledge that enables you to succeed in any type of media or journalism setting.

Best thing about DCU experience so far

My favourite part of the DCU experience so far are the societies! There is something for everyone and they allow you to meet so many people from various courses and help you develop so many different skills! I also love how staff in DCU always let students know about great opportunities whether its talks, work or internships to do with their courses. They're always there to help students gain extra experience and skills outside of college.

Advice you would give to your younger self thinking of what to do/ where to go

Advice I would give to my younger self about college is not to worry too much about not getting into a course/college you want or not knowing exactly what you want to do. There's always a way to get what you want even if it will take a little more time and hard work. If you want something you will get it, don't worry about what others are doing, you have plenty of time.

Plans after DCU

As of now, I want to do a million things! I would love to work as a presenter for RTE in the future, be a documentary maker, do investigative journalism on climate change, and my dream job of being an editor of a fashion magazine. I'm also thinking of doing a masters in Climate Change: Policy, Media and Society in DCU, so I have a few hard decisions in front of me!
