Widening Participation

Widening Participation

Widening Participation (WP) aims to promote inclusion and diversity by encouraging, advising and supporting individuals from underrepresented groups who would like to access and complete a course at university. DCU is strategically committed to realising educational opportunities for all and actively engages with education providers to develop enhanced entry routes to DCU programmes. DCU aspires to increase the number of underrepresented students in the University to ensure that our student body reflects the diversity of Irish society.

Our underrepresented groups are:

  • Students who are socioeconomically disadvantaged;
  • First time mature students;
  • Students progressing to university from Further Education and Training Centres;
  • Students with disabilities;
  • Students who are members of the Irish Traveller and Roma communities;
  • Students who are migrants or refugees or who have experience of the international protection process, or students from ethnic minorities.

If you are the first in your family to go to university or are new to living in Ireland, you may need help figuring out where to start the process. If you have any questions about becoming a DCU student, be sure to contact us.
