biocomputation research laboratory
The Biocomputation Research Laboratory (BRL) comprises a twenty five-person strong interdisciplinary research team, which coordinates and promotes research in the areas of:
- Computational Biology
- Biosystems Modelling
- Biostatistics/ Biometrics
- Bioinformatics
The Laboratory, which is led by Professor Heather Ruskin, is affiliated to the National Institute for Cellular Biotechnology (NICB) (funded by HEA PRTLI) and collaborates on projects with NICB colleagues in Chemistry and Biotechnology at DCU. In 2005 it ran the highly successful Bioinformatics Inform International Workshop.
M.Sc. in Bioinformatics
The Biocomputation Research Laboratory supports DCU's full-time taught M.Sc. in Bioinformatics programme, which is unique in Ireland. Its twin-strand entry in Computing and Life Sciences is unique in Europe. The programme's focus on research and interdisciplinary skills development makes graduates particularly suitable for bioinformatics roles in industry and academia.
