Transition Year Initiative

What is ComputeTY?

ComputeTY is a Transition Year Computing initiative for secondary schools. It will see over 500 local Transition Year students partake in campus-based weeklong courses in Python Programming and App Development.

DCU will provide tutors who will be on hand to provide assistance to the students and graded by an academic from the School of Computing. Students will receive a certificate from the University in recognition of the grade achieved.

Programme Aims

The aim of this highly ambitious initiative is threefold:

  • To strengthen links with the local community;
  • To provide secondary school students with the opportunity to develop their computing skills to a high level;
  • and
    • To show students first-hand how interesting information technology can be, and thereby encourage them to consider computing as an exciting and attractive career option.

    When?

    The courses will be held in the School of Computing for one week per group in January each year.
