Ethics Week in DCU
Ethics Week in DCU - a great success

DCU Ethics and Privacy Week 2021

For the second year running, DCU hosted a successful series of lunchtime lectures for Ethics and Privacy Week. Dr Rob Brennan, ADAPT and DCU School of Computing, and Dr Fiachra O'Brolchain, Institute of Ethics, DCU, organised four virutal, cross-disciplinary lunchtime lectures and brought together a variety of experts to discuss the current issues and concerns in the area of ethics and privacy.

Areas of discussion included the growth of the digital economy and widespread use of AI and personal data processing. Events like the Cambridge Analytica scandal have highlighted the impacts and the need for heightened awareness of data ethics, privacy and data protection. These are interdisciplinary concerns cross-cutting both the social sciences, law, ethics as well as computing, engineering, maths, health and business domains. There is a clear need to raise awareness, debate the issues and share best practice.
