Academic biography

Dr Marnie Hay specialises in modern Irish history, with particular emphasis on the histories of the Irish cultural revival, the Irish revolution, and youth. Her present research examines Irish youth culture in the early twentieth century. Her latest monograph Na Fianna Éireann and the Irish Revolution, 1909-23: Scouting for Rebels (2019) is published by Manchester University Press. She is the module coordinator for the following history modules at DCU: The Irish Revival and Revolution, 1884-1922 (HY329); A History of Northern Ireland, 1912-98 (HY321); Exploring the Past through Primary Sources (HY309); Children and Childhood in the Western World (HY222); and History Workshop: Turning Points (HY104). She is a founding member of the History of Irish Childhood Research Network, a former committee member of the Irish Society for the Study of Children’s Literature (ISSCL), and a former academic director of the Parnell Summer School (2011-12).
