Educational (Fee) Supports for Staff

The University is committed to supporting staff members in their professional development, and in furthering the goals of the School/Unit and the University. The purpose of these schemes is to support staff who wish to embark on further education.  Each of the schemes has an individual set of guidelines which should be reviewed before submitting an application.

Fee Waiver Scheme

For DCU Courses
The purpose of the Fee Waiver scheme is to support staff who are embarking on further education at DCU. A fee waiver may be granted to eligible staff based on the criteria set out below

 

Am I eligible?

  • The course must be a DCU undergraduate or post graduate degree programme
  • The course should have relevance to the applicant's current role and also be of benefit to the University
  • The applicant should have completed their probationary period and/or have at least one year's service prior to commencing the qualification
  • The applicant must hold a contract of employment which extends beyond the completion date of the course
  • The applicant must receive the approval of the Head of School/Unit and authorisation from the Human Resources Department.

 

How do I apply?

  • Fully complete the Fee Waiver Application Form
  • Forward the application form to your Head of School/Unit for approval.
  • Scan and email the form to Learning and Development at learning.development@dcu.ie
  • The application process must be made for each year of the course.

 

Additional Information

  • Where the number of places on a course is limited, participation is subject to availability of places, after full fee paying places have been allocated
  • All applications are considered against the financial constraints operating with the university at any given time
  • The fee waiver will not apply beyond the date of termination of a contract of employment
  • The fee waiver cannot be used to cover the cost of repeat modules and examinations
  • Attendance at short courses or conferences is not covered by the scheme.

For Children and Spouses/Civil Partners of Staff of Dublin City University
 

Children
Full remission of fees applies to the children of staff of the university who were permanently employed prior to 30th September 1992 and have remained in continuous permanent employment with the university since that date.

Spouses / Civil Partners
50% remission of fees applies to spouses/civil partners of staff of the university who were permanently employed prior to 30th September 1992 and have remained in continuous employment with the university since that date. (please note that staff availing of remission under this scheme may be liable for a benefit in kind tax deduction from their salary)

To apply for the fee waiver you should complete the application form and return to Learning and Development, HR (learning.development@dcu.ie).

For external courses

The University is committed to supporting staff members in their professional development and in furthering the goals of the School/Unit and the University. In certain circumstance a school / unit may wish to support staff embarking on further education outside of DCU. In these instances a fee payment may be granted to eligible staff based on the criteria set out below.

Am I eligible?

  • The course should have relevance to the applicant's current role and also be of benefit to the University
  • The school / unit should be willing to provide financial support for the course
  • The applicant should have completed their probationary period and/or have at least one year's service prior to commencing the qualification
  • The applicant must hold a contract of employment which extends beyond the completion date of the course
  • The applicant must receive the approval of the Head of School/Unit and authorisation from the Human Resources Department.

 

How do I apply?
