-Both parties recognise that under this agreement each of them has responsibilities for the welfare and security of the University staff.
-The Union recognises the University's responsibility and authority to plan, develop, organise and manage its operations in order to achieve and maintain maximum effectiveness and efficiency, subject to the procedures within this agreement.
-The University recognises the Unions responsibility to represent the interests of its members, subject to the procedures contained within this agreement.
-The University and the Union have a common objective in using the procedures within this and other agreements to achieve results beneficial to the University and its staff.
-The parties agree that the excellence and efficiency of the University is the surest guarantee of secure employment. By the nature of the educational environment in which the University operates, there is a continual and essential need for change and adaptation. This is understood and accepted as a reality by staff members and Union. Continued co-operation in implementing necessary changes identified by the University and accepted by the staff members is a condition of continued employment subject to the agreed consultation procedures.-The Union agrees to co-operate with all measures designed to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the educational or related processes of the University, subject to the agreed procedures.
