Looking for a challenge? Take on the global challenges through challenge-based learning.

The DCU BSc in Global Challenges is for people who want to challenge themselves to take on the world’s problems.  This unique programme integrates social science and technology studies through challenge-based learning.  Technological advances can bring about huge changes to the way we live. Students will also explore the societal and economic impacts of new and emerging technologies, and their effect on the future of work, environmental impacts and community interaction.

Students will engage with concrete problems, such as climate change, gender stereotypes, fake news, global health and global inequality.  Solutions to these problems will be explored through simulations,  hackathons and interdisciplinary team-work.   Challenges will be inspired by examples from the public, private, and NGO sectors, as well as student-generated challenges.  We will equip graduates to develop socially effective technological solutions to real problems (MORE)

BA in International Relations - DC231

The BA in International Relations allows students to discover more about a variety of issues and debates in global politics and to consider the forces which shape contemporary societies. Students will learn to understand and analyse the organisation and interaction of modern societies, by learning about politics, development, international institutions, political economy and area studies from a global perspective.

Students taking this degree also have the opportunity to study abroad for one year.

Graduates of the BA in International Relations will be ideally suited for work in a variety of different areas. Some graduates may choose to work for international governmental or non-governmental institutions or for major international corporations, while others may choose a career in journalism, policy-evaluation or research. (MORE)

BA in Economics, Politics and Law - DC320

The BA in Economics, Politics and Law (EPL) provides students with a unique opportunity to study each of these three distinct disciplines and to develop an appreciation of the interaction between these discrete areas. The BA in Economics, Politics and Law aims to provide students with an understanding of the political, legal and economic institutions that shape the current global environment. Students taking this degree also have the opportunity to study abroad for one year.

Graduates of the B.A. in Economics, Politics and Law will be ideally suited for work in a variety of different areas. Some graduates may choose to work in the public service, private industry or international and European institutions, while others may choose a career in law (graduates will be eligible for entry to the Law Society of Ireland as trainee solicitors, on successful completion of the relevant entrance exams and all subjects required for the entrance exams are covered), tax/financial services, journalism, policy-evaluation or research. (MORE)

BCL (Law and Society) - DC232

The BCL (Law and Society) is an exciting, innovative law degree. Students undertaking this degree will learn about law, and about the range of social forces which influence how legal rules are developed, enacted and applied. There is a strong focus in the BCL (Law and Society) on the interaction between society and the law which distinguishes this from other traditional law degrees.

Along with the academic study of law, students taking this degree have the opportunity to be involved in community-centred extra-curricular activities and a final year work placement.

The BCL (Law and Society) is recognised by the Honorable Society of King's Inns as an approved law degree. This means that graduates of the BCL (Law and Society) are eligible for entry to the barrister-at-law degree at King's Inns, on successful completion of the relevant entrance exams. Graduates will also be eligible for entry to the Law Society of Ireland as trainee solicitors, on successful completion of the relevant entrance exams. Graduates may choose go on to other careers too, e.g. journalism, tax/financial services, politics, the police, academia, industry, management, the civil service, and work in various state and non-governmental organisations, or international and European institutions.
