DCU Maths Learning Centre
Operational Policy
- The aim of the Mathematics Learning Centre is to provide extra support on an informal basis in a welcoming environment. This service is open to all first-year undergraduate students whose course has a mathematics module.
- The support is given through one-to-one help offered on a drop-in basis. The times and location are given on the Centre's homepage.
- The Mathematics Learning Centre should be used as a supplement to lectures and tutorials and not as a substitute for these.
- It is recommended that students who are having difficulties with their maths requirements attend the Centre regularly and as early in the academic year as possible.
- As well as giving extra tuition to help develop students' mathematical skills, the Centre also tries to help students become independent autonomous learners with more confidence in their mathematical abilities and a better overall understanding of mathematics.
- The Centre strives to maintain the quality of mathematics education in DCU.
- Some of the tutors in the Centre deal only with specific modules. They will refer students undertaking other modules to another tutor present in the Centre.
- If a student comes to the Centre with a mathematical question arising from either project work or a non-mathematics module, the Centre will endeavour to provide assistance. Such aid cannot be guaranteed in these cases.
