Hemispheric Dominance

Examination of the structure of the human brain reveals two hemispheres - the right and left hemispheres. Neurological and psychological research has revealed that the brain functions as two separate, but linked, entities and that each side has its own specialty as outlined hereunder.

Most individuals have a preference for one of these styles of thought, and a very few gifted individuals are able to use both sides of their brains equally well. These are known as zero- or cross-laterality thinkers and can also be referred to as 'whole brain' individuals. Research also shows that there may be gender differences in brain laterality (male: left-brain preference; female: right-brain preference).
