1. Sunday Times Good University Guide

Last updated September 2021

  • Dublin City University has ranked 6th nationally out of 17 Irish institutions, according to the Sunday Times Good University Guide 2022. 
  • The highly esteemed Sunday Times ranking measures areas such as student experience, employment prospects, research funding awarded, and facilities spend, to name but a few. 
  • DCU is known in Ireland and internationally for its diverse student body, with over 17,500 students from 55 countries across the world. 
  • DCU's students continuously ranked the University highly for student experience and DCU holds the accolade of highest rate of graduate employment in the country amongst it's graduates.

2. Times Higher World University Rankings

  • DCU maintains position for 2022 as one of the top universities worldwide. 
  • Ranking 501-600, DCU excelled in Research.

  • Times Higher ranked 1,662 universities for 2022 across an array of categories such as teaching, research, citations, industry income and international outlook.

3. Times Higher Impact Rankings

DCU rank just outside the top 100 universities globally according to the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals. 

The Times Higher impact rankings measure the overall contribution to sustainability by third level institutions. The outcomes are measured against the United Nation 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

  • DCU ranked 101-200 in the 2021 Impact Rankings.
  • DCU are ranked 23rd globally under the ‘No Poverty’ goal. DCU’s poverty research and equality policies have contributed to its status as a leading sustainable and inclusive university.
  • DCU also scored highly in the ‘responsible consumption and production’ goal in 2021, demonstrating its focus on driving zero carbon emissions and responsible sourcing.
  • DCU’s sustainability council work across all aspects of the university to improve and measure sustainability by improving health and wellbeing, promoting gender equality, promoting waste use/reuse sustainability, reducing climate change impact, promoting responsible consumption, reducing inequalities and, improving education and employment prospects.

4. Times Higher Young University Rankings

  • DCU holds position as second best Young University in Ireland in 2021.
  • DCU has been ranked 117th globally by Times Higher Young Universities.
  • DCU is the only Irish university to improve scores in all areas measured by Times Higher between 2020 and 2021, excelling in Industry Income, International Outlook and Research.

5. QS World University Rankings 

Last updated June 2021

  • DCU maintains position for 2022 as one of the top 500 universities globally.  
  • DCU ranked in 490th position.
  • For the second year running DCU has improved both academic and employer reputation outcomes.
  • The impact of Covid-19 on the internationalisation of the student body and student mobility can be seen across many universities this year.

6. QS Graduate Employability Rankings

The 2022 QS Graduate Employability Ranking was published in September 2021 following a one year hiatus due to the ongoing impact of Covid-19.

This ranking measures several areas including employer opinion and work placements offered.

  • Overall DCU are the 3rd  best university nationally for Graduate Employability. The ranking measures 5 distinct areas.  
  • DCU ranks 23rd in the world and 1st in Ireland for their actual rate of graduates employed within 12 months of course completion. 
  • In addition, DCU ranks 3rd in Ireland for alumni outcomes. QS take particular note of young notable alumni. 
  • DCU's focus on quality placements, excellent employer connections and well-equipped graduates allow alumni to enact real societal change once they begin their careers.

7. QS Best Student Cities

  • Dublin ranked 39th best student city in the world for 2022.
  • This is the first ranking of this kind since 2019 as Covid-19 halted international travel.
  • The Best Student Cities list is compiled by looking at university rankings, student view, student mix, desirability, employer activity & affordability.
  • Dublin’s vibrancy means the city scores highly in relation to student mix (14th in the world), desirability (30th in the world) and employer activity (36th in the world).
  • Based on various pricing indices, Dublin is improving in the affordability metric. Dublin have improved their affordability by 4 spots between 2019 and 2022.

8. UI GreenMetric

Similar to the Times Higher Impact Rankings, the UI GreenMetric measure a university’s progress towards overall  sustainability.

  • DCU ranked 13th globally in 2021.
  • DCU is the leading Irish university for both waste and water management.

9. U-Multirank

Last updated September 2021

Funded by the European Commission, this ranking does not use league tables to position universities in the traditional way. Instead, it presents an array of data for over 2,000 universities across the world. Students are encouraged to compare and contrast the data to determine which university will be suit their requirements. 

  • There are 5 broad areas measured by U-Multirank: Teaching & Learning, Research, Knowledge Transfer, International Orientation and Regional Engagement. 
  • DCU scored 9 A's across a variety of indicators including; bachelor graduation rate, co-publications amongst academics, co-publications with industry, patents awarded, post-doc positions and international academic staff. 
  • DCU are one of the top 25 institutions globally for co-publications with industrial partners.

10. Times Higher Subject Rankings

  • DCU have performed excellently in the Times Higher 2022 Subject Rankings.
  • The DCU Business School is ranked 151-175 globally for an array of courses including, Accounting & Finance, Business & Management and Economics. 
  • The offer of Arts & Humanities subjects including History, Philosophy, Theology, Languages and Linguistics are ranked 201-250 globally. 
  • Communications at DCU is 251-300 globally. 
  • Computer Science at DCU is 301-400 globally.

  • 4 DCU courses rank within the top 200 globally; Communications & Media Studies, Education & Training, Politics & International Studies and Linguistics. 
  • DCU famously offer the best Communications and Media course in Ireland.
