1. Sunday Times Good University Guide

  • Dublin City University has ranked 6th nationally out of 17 Irish institutions, according to the Sunday Times Good University Guide 2022. 
  • The highly esteemed Sunday Times ranking measures areas such as student experience, employment prospects, research funding awarded, and facilities spend, to name but a few. 
  • DCU is known in Ireland and internationally for its diverse student body, with over 17,500 students from 55 countries across the world. 
  • DCU's students continuously ranked the University highly for student experience and DCU holds the accolade of highest rate of graduate employment in the country amongst it's graduates.

2. Times Higher World University Rankings

  • DCU increases position to sit within the top 500 Universities globally.
  • According to Times Higher Education DCU rank 401-500 against almost 1,800 other Universities. 
  • DCU saw improvements in all 5 metrics - with international outlook and research seeing excellent outcomes.
  • DCU rank 192nd globally in terms of their international outlook due to diverse staff and student bodies. 
  • DCU rank 327th globally in terms of research - a metric which looks at global research reputation, research income and the number of publications per staff.

3. Times Higher Impact Rankings

DCU ranks 88th out of over 1,400 universities globally according to the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals. 

The Times Higher impact rankings measure the overall contribution to sustainability by third level institutions. The outcomes are measured against the United Nation 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

  • DCU rank 8th best in the world in terms of reducing inequalities. This is a testament to DCU's excellent access programme and student supports.  
  • DCU are ranked 20th best in the world for gender equality. 
  • DCU also scored highly in the ‘no poverty' category coming in at 26th globally. 
  • Other areas which DCU rank within the top 100 globally for include; Clean Water & Sanitation, Decent Work & Economic Growth, Responsible Consumption & Production, and, Peace, Justice & Strong Institutions. 
  • DCU has displayed it's excellence in areas such as access, equality, student supports, sustainability and ethical sourcing, economic excellence, ethical teaching and learning and community engagement.

4. Times Higher Young University Rankings

  • DCU holds position as second best Young University in Ireland in 2022, coming within 7 spots of the number one ranked domestic young University.
  • DCU has been ranked 113th globally by Times Higher Young Universities, up 4 spots from last year.
  • DCU excels in their International Outlook, Citations Score and Research Reputation and Outputs.

5. QS World University Rankings 

Last updated June 2022

  • DCU is one of only two Irish Universities to improve in rank for 2023.
  • DCU are now ranked joint 471st globally out of over 1,400 Universities.
  • For the third year running DCU has improved in both academic and employer reputation outcomes - the result of employer and peer surveys carried out by QS. 
  • In terms of Employer Reputation, DCU is regarded as 301st best in the world.

6. QS Graduate Employability Rankings

The 2022 QS Graduate Employability Ranking was published in September 2021 following a one year hiatus due to the ongoing impact of Covid-19.

This ranking measures several areas including employer opinion and work placements offered.

  • Overall DCU are the 3rd  best university nationally for Graduate Employability. The ranking measures 5 distinct areas.  
  • DCU ranks 23rd in the world and 1st in Ireland for their actual rate of graduates employed within 12 months of course completion. 
  • In addition, DCU ranks 3rd in Ireland for alumni outcomes. QS take particular note of young notable alumni. 
  • DCU's focus on quality placements, excellent employer connections and well-equipped graduates allow alumni to enact real societal change once they begin their careers.

7. QS Best Student Cities

  • Dublin ranked joint 37th best student city in the world for 2023.
  • This is an improvement of 2 spots. 
  • The Best Student Cities list is compiled by looking at university rankings, student view, student mix, desirability, employer activity & affordability.
  • Dublin’s vibrancy means the city scores highly in relation to student mix (16th in the world) and desirability (36th in the world).

8. QS: Sustainability

October 2022 saw QS launch their inaugural sustainability ranking. The ranking measures contribution to sustainability both socially and environmentally. 

  • DCU rank 15th globally and 1st in Ireland for being a 'sustainable institution.' 
  • DCU also excel for 'equality' and 'employability.'
  • DCU rank 191-200 overall.

9. UI GreenMetric

Similar to the Times Higher Impact Rankings, the UI GreenMetric measure a university’s progress towards overall  sustainability.

  • DCU ranked 14th globally in 2022.
  • DCU is the leading Irish university for both waste and energy management.

10. U-Multirank

Last updated June 2022

Funded by the European Commission, this ranking does not use league tables to position universities in the traditional way. Instead, it presents an array of data for over 2,000 universities across the world. Students are encouraged to compare and contrast the data to determine which university will be suit their requirements. 

  • There are 5 broad areas measured by U-Multirank: Teaching & Learning, Research, Knowledge Transfer, International Orientation and Regional Engagement. 
  • DCU scored 11 A's across a variety of indicators including; bachelor graduation rate, post-doc positions, students graduating on time, publications with industry, international academic staff and international joint publications.

11. ShanghaiRanking

An important ranking for Asian academics and students, ShanghaiRanking produce important subject level rankings (Global Ranking of Academic Subjects - GRAS) on an annual basis. 

  • DCU rank as follows for 2022:
  • Communications 101-150 globally, Finance 151-200 globally, Nursing 201-300 globally, Politics 201-300 globally, Economics, Education and Business 301-400 globally.

12. Times Higher Subject Rankings

  • DCU have performed excellently in the Times Higher 2023 Subject Rankings, improving rank in 6 out of 8 of the broad subjects in which they are ranked.
  • The DCU Business School is ranked 126-150 globally for an array of courses including, Accounting & Finance, Business & Management and Economics. This places the DCU Business School joint second for their courses nationally.   
  • The offer of Arts & Humanities subjects including History, Philosophy, Theology, Languages and Linguistics are ranked 176-200 globally. 
  • Communications at DCU is 201-300 globally. 
  • Computer Science at DCU is 251-300 globally. 

13. QS Subject Rankings

Last updated March 2023

  • DCU continued to excel in the 2023 QS Subject Rankings. Almost 1,600 Universities were ranked for the 2023 iteration. 
  • DCU have 7 subjects ranked in the top 200 globally. 
  • DCU offer the best Communications course in Ireland, and the third best Accounting & Finance and Business & Management courses in the country.
  • Education at DCU is the joint second best course in Ireland.
  • Communications, Sports Science and Education at DCU are all considered within the top 150 of these courses offered worldwide.
