Arts Bursary

Arts Bursary

Aim:

The Office of Student Life, with support from the Educational Trust, offers a limited number of Arts Bursaries to full-time students involved in the Arts. The aim of the Arts Bursary, established in 2009, is to promote excellence in artistic and cultural activities in Dublin City University and to encourage the pursuit of such excellence. All art forms are considered and students are asked to submit an application detailing their achievements to date, their hopes for the future and some detail on how they propose to spend any bursary they may be awarded. To date over 60 students have benefited from the scheme.

Eligibility:

Applications from all art forms are welcome- including but not limited to the following:

  • Visual Arts – (Painting, Photography, Sculpture, Illustration, Craft making, & Fashion)
  • Performing Arts – (Dance, Music, Theatre & Music Technology)
  • Media Practice – (Writing, Video & Film)

How to Apply:

Applications for Arts Bursaries are invited towards the end of the first semester and applicants are required to complete and submit the required form, with samples of their work where relevant.  Applicants are shortlisted and interviewed before being awarded any bursary.  Details of relevant dates are included in the weekly SU Newsletter and on the www.dcustudentlife.ie website.  Keep up to date on our Facebook page and other social media.

Testimonial

Hannah Cullen O’Donovan, a first-year Communication Studies student, was an awardee in 2019/20.  Hannah is an accomplished musician with credits including a Distinction in Grade 8 in piano, viola and classical singing. Hannah described what the support from DCU meant to her:

“I was delighted to receive the DCU Arts Bursary as I had the opportunity to purchase music equipment that enhanced my performance as a session musician. I am very grateful for DCU’s ongoing support and look forward to future engagement with the arts programme.”
