Programme Orientation

The programme induction for Year 1 MSc in Guidance Counselling students will commence with a formal welcome and introduction to the core teaching team: Paul King (Placement Director and Lecturer), Aisling Murray Fleming (Programme Chair and Lecturer), Marie Therese O’Gorman (Lecturer) and Claire Considine (Teaching Fellow). Students will be provided with an overview of the history and evolution of career development theory, along with an introduction to key concepts, terminology, and the overall structure of the programme. This includes core modules in foundational skills, integrative frameworks, digital guidance, group processes, and professional placement practice. The induction will also include practical guidance on using essential university platforms such as DCU email, Loop (the Virtual Learning Environment), and Google Drive. In addition, students will have an opportunity to ask any questions regarding administrative requirements, including registration and Garda vetting. A campus tour will be provided to familiarise students with the library, student support services, and nearby amenities. Importantly, there will also be an opportunity to meet and engage with students who have recently completed the programme, offering valuable insight into the student experience and professional pathways.
