Springboard+

Springboard+ is an upskilling initiative in higher education which offers funded courses at degree and postgraduate levels. It is open to any individual who wishes to retrain and upskill in an area where there is a skills gap.

All courses are designed either directly or in conjunction with industry, and each individual coming through will be a work-ready graduate.

It makes good sense to hire a Springboard graduate:

  • Our graduates offer a combination of professional experience and the latest expertise. Many of them are already graduates in other disciplines and all of them have skills and competencies developed over a number of years of work experience. They have already gained significant industry expertise.
  • They are highly motivated to succeed and have demonstrated this by successfully combining demanding work and study schedules in order to progress their careers.
  • It develops strong links with DCU.
  • They will bring new ideas and new perspectives to the workplace.

Microplacements:
Springboard+
students are also available for flexible microplacements. This can range from 1 day per week to a 6 week block and could be ideal for specific short-term projects.

DCU Springboard Graduates:

 Certificate in Computer Programming (Level 8)

Graduates in the Certificate in Computer Programming will have knowledge and understanding of the fundamental principles of programming, including IT and web technology, as well as object-oriented programming with Java.

This includes:

IT and Web Technology:

  • Hardware and Software fundamentals

 Certificate in Software Systems and New Venture Creation (Level 8)

DCU's Level 8 Certificate in Software Systems and New Venture Creation develops knowledge, understanding and skills in relation to entrepreneurship and systems analysis.  On completion of this programme students will have much sought after expertise in software systems together with honed creativity, innovation and entrepreneurial skills.

Specifically, students of the Certificate in Software Systems and New Venture Creation will have:

The Graduate Certificate in Artificial Intelligence will provide aspiring AI engineers with the skills, theory and competence they require to develop in the role, including how the foundations and techniques of AI can be practised in a business setting.

 Graduate Certificate in Translation Technology (Level 9)

Graduates in this course will have advanced technical training in translation technology, computerised terminology and translation theory.  The course was designed in close collaboration with professional bodies such as the Irish Translators’ and Interpreters’ Association, EU organisations and the Translation industry.  

There is a strong practical and professional dimension, including:

  • Specialist technologies used in the translation industry such as Translation Memory, Machine Translation, and Post-Editing
  • Data management when assessing and utilising bilingual data to build Machine Translation systems
  • Terminology management systems, term extraction tools and corpus processing tools such as SDL Multiterm and Sketch Engine
  • Linguistic, functional and cognitive explorations of translation and their applications in the profession

The objective of the Higher Diploma in Science – Software Development is to augment the expertise of non-computing graduates working in IT through learning key software development techniques and skills.  These include:
