2023/24 Mentorship Programme Winners Announced

The Mentorship Programme is a collaboration between DCU Careers Service and the Alumni Office, which aims to support students in their career journey during the second year of their undergraduate degree in DCU.

By connecting students with DCU Alumni, the program involves career exploration and goal setting, with a focus on employability skills. Spanning one year during the students' second year of undergraduate study, the program offers valuable professional opportunities for each student.

Mentors are drawn from the diverse DCU Alumni Community, representing various sectors including multinational corporations, SMEs, family businesses, and startups. They provide mentees with invaluable insights into workplace dynamics, focusing on essential skills such as communication and collaboration.  They give the mentee ongoing personalised guidance as well as constructive feedback, which helps build the student’s awareness of their capabilities. Additionally, participation enables students to expand their professional network, boost their CV, and earn a distinctive digital Mentorship Badge upon completion of the programme.

At the end of the academic year, students submit a personal reflection and both a Mentee and Mentor of the Year are announced. Congratulations to Oliwia Piesiak, second year student from the BA Social Sciences & Cultural Innovation, who was announced as the 2023/24 Mentee of the Year for her engagement and dedication to the programme. Jason McCormac, was celebrated as Mentor of the Year for his exceptional guidance and support.  Jason’s mentee James Prestage accepted the award on his behalf.

At the ceremony, Yvonne McLoughlin, Head of Careers Service, said “It has been another fantastic year for mentorship. The mentoring relationships have enabled our student mentees to gain career insights, develop skills and become better acquainted with the workplace. Many thanks to the generosity of DCU alumni who gave their time, expertise and knowledge to mentor our second year students.”
