School of Theology, Philosophy, and Music hosts Ethics Seminar with Wuhan University, School of Philosophy

The School of Theology, Philosophy, and Music hosted an Ethics Seminar on July 1st 2019 with colleagues from the School of Philosophy, Wuhan University, China. The papers covered a variety of topics including medical ethics (Professor Bert Gordijn), Marxist philosophy (Dr. Xinewi Wu), Neo-Confucian approaches to virtue (Dr. Cancan Liao), Daoism (Dr. Geng Liu), meritocracy and populism (Dr.Xiao Ouyang), and Confucianism and Democracy (Dr. Yong Li). Dr. Ethna Regan characterised the event as an excellent example of the practice of comparative philosophy, with the enrichment and challenge that brings. Dr. Ian Leask noted the particular challenge to our own teaching of philosophy in the West to be more inclusive of the philosophies of global humanity in our curriculum. The seminar ended with discussions about some future joint initiatives.
