Universal Design DCU Feedback

Please provide feedback on your experience of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) in DCU.

UDL is a set of principles for curriculum development that give all individuals equal opportunities to learn. UDL aims to improve the educational experience of all students by representing academic information in multiple ways/formats, allowing students to engage through a variety of means and giving students options in how they demonstrate their learning. Please see some examples below of how UDL could be implemented within your modules/courses.

UDL Example 1:

Academic content is represented in a variety of ways such as powerpoint, videos, podcasts etc.

UDL Example 2:

Students can engage in a number of ways such as listening to their lecturer presenting material, contributing ideas through padlet/online forums, completing a quiz, taking part in a group discussion etc.

UDL Example 3:

Students have options in how they complete an assignment such as a 3,000 word essay or a 10 minute video. Each would address the key learning outcomes.
