Abstract:
Early childhood is certainly inhabiting a firm position on policy agendas. To inform those policies we need research into early childhood education and care (ECEC) systems. However, the ECEC field tends to focus on policy sectors (silo approaches) and policy analysis at the national level. Can we move beyond silo mentalities and standardised national comparisons in ECEC research? Drawing on my experience with South American ECEC systems, in this lecture I will explore regionalised and territorialised systemic approaches to analysing diversity and inequalities in ECEC provision. I will reflect on the theoretical and methodological challenges that lie ahead in a forward-looking agenda for the ECEC field. This lecture should be of interest for early childhood researchers, policy makers and practitioners, as well as those interested in public policy and governance.
About Dr Jennifer Guevara:
Jennifer Guevara is DCU Rising Talent Postdoctoral Fellow at the School of Language, Literacy and Early Childhood Education and a member of the Early Childhood Research Centre at Dublin City University (DCU-ECRC), Ireland. She is Associate Researcher of the Education Programme at the Centre for the Implementation of Public Policies for Equity and Growth (CIPPEC), Argentina. She works on questions of Early Childhood Education and Care policies, systems and workforce, with a focus on South America. Guevara holds a PhD in Education from Universidad de San Andrés, Argentina. She is co-founder of the Latin American Network for Research in Early Childhood Education, Care and Upbringing (Red de Estudios Latinoamericanos sobre Crianza, Enseñanza y Cuidado, RELACEC) and Co-chair of the Think20 Task Force 'G20 Support for SDGs and Development Cooperation'.
