Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowships: Call for Proposals 2022

Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowships are an excellent opportunity to enhance the creative and innovative potential of researchers holding a PhD and who wish to acquire new skills through advanced training via international, interdisciplinary and intersectoral mobility. These fellowships are open to excellent researchers of any nationality or discipline to work on research in a European context or outside Europe. 

Dublin City University (DCU) welcomes excellent researchers who are looking to apply for the MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships with DCU mentors. Further details regarding DCU as a host institution and the research areas available are detailed below, as well as key information regarding this call.

Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellows at DCU will be given the opportunity to participate in the DCU Research Career Framework (RCF) which provides a structured framework to support the professional and career development of DCU researchers. A major aim of the RCF is to ensure researchers can meet the demands of their roles and be in a position to maximise opportunities within the University and develop a wider career path. In addition, DCU’s comprehensive Research Development Programme supports the continuous professional development of researchers. A researcher can also avail of DCU's Professional Skills for Research Leaders (PSRL) learning programme which is an excellent learning programme designed to help researchers in their career strategy. 

Types of Fellowships

Support is foreseen for individual, trans-national fellowships awarded to the best and most promising researchers for employment in EU Member States or Associated Countries. There are 2 types of fellowships:

European Postdoctoral Fellowships are open to researchers of any nationality and will be held in DCU.  This fellowship is open to researchers either coming to Europe or moving within Europe for a period of 12 to 24 months.

Global Postdoctoral Fellowships are open to EU nationals or long-term residents. This action enhances the international dimension of European researchers’ career by financing research project to be carried out in two different countries. This action is based on a secondment to a non-associated third country (from 12 to 24 months) and a mandatory 12 month return period to DCU.

Eligible Researchers

• The researcher must hold a PhD degree or should have successfully defended doctoral thesis at the deadline for the submission of proposals.

• The researcher may be of any nationality.

• The researcher must comply with the following mobility rule: the researcher must not have resided or carried out the main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of the host organisation for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the deadline for submission of proposals. Compulsory national service and/or short stays such as holidays are not taken into account.

• The researcher cannot be more than 8 years post PhD at the call deadline.

Areas of Research and Training

Any area of research is eligible for funding under Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowships. Researchers may freely select their area of interest and work in collaboration with a scientific supervisor from DCU. How to apply?

The research proposal and the CV has to be submitted on the Funding and Tender Portal of the Europen Commission. The proposal has to be jointly developed by the applicant and the mentor. DCU's research development team provides professional support with proposal preparation. 

Financial Aspects 

The financial support for Marie Skłodowska-Curie PFs covers living allowance, mobility and family allowance, research costs and training on a flat-rate basis.

Note: The living allowance is a gross EU contribution to the salary costs of the researcher. Consequently, the net salary results from deducting all compulsory (employer/employee) social security contributions as well as direct taxes (e.g. income tax) from the gross amounts. In line with current Irish government policy, DCU will automatically enrol all employees into its pension scheme. *A country correction coefficient applies to the living allowance (119.5 % for Ireland).
