Intel Projects
1. Post Doctoral Project (2-years)– Data management for water: development of a decision support system for key water challenges in a city.
The data collected in real-time from sensors in the Dublin Bay area will be integrated with tidal information, weather conditions, current data and infomar data on sedimentation. Capability in multimodal data analysis to inform on events, flooding prediction, water quality, harmful algal blooms etc. will be utilised. There will be the opportunity to include VGI data also and develop smart applications
2. PhD project 1 (3 years): Sensor development, deployment and surrogate sensor data for smart water management.
The research will involve the development of a low-cost optical sensor for detection of changes in water quality. This will be combined with deployment and maintenance of sensor systems at representative sites in the Liffey catchment and Dublin Bay. The project will address the impact of low-cost sensing in supporting water management as well as investigating the need for high spatial and temporal frequency of sensors. The quality of communications, data handling and delivery and ultimate data quality will also be addressed.
3. PhD project 2 (3 years): Communicating the water information to the users
The data collected has many uses and therefore requires management and dissemination in a number of different ways. VGI data from all areas of water in the Liffey catchment, leisure an industrial usage data, climate, wind etc. will be evaluated in the postdoctoral project. The outcomes and interpretations of the different data streams and their integration approaches will enable the dissemination in many different ways e.g. Leisure users, agencies, industries, businesses etc.
