Mission Statement | Centre for Talented Youth Ireland
Nurturing Talent, Maximising Potential
CTY Ireland was established at Dublin City University in 1992 to meet the needs of high ability students aged 6 to 17 years from Ireland and abroad. Since the first summer programme in 1993 over 101,695 students have attended or participated in programmes run by CTY Ireland.
CTY Ireland's Mission Statement aligns with the overall University Strategy ‘to transform lives and societies.
CTY Ireland aims to allow all talented students to reach their potential both academically and socially by providing relevant and interesting challenges based on ability and interest rather than age.
This is achieved through the following means:
- Identification & assessment of high ability students
- Providing challenging coursework in the form of Saturday, summer and correspondence courses
- Support for parents & teachers
- Research in the field of gifted education
Who should apply?
CTY Ireland aims to identify student who have ability in areas of abstract, verbal or mathematical reasoning. To ascertain eligibility for CTY Ireland programmes a series of assessment tests are used. CTY Ireland is a very inclusive organisation and also welcomes applications from high ability students with learning disabilities. Most of these students are identified by a psychologist and details of how to apply for these students are included in the link below.

What happens then?
Once a student is identified, CTY Ireland provides challenging classes at DCU and other Centres around the country. These enrichment-style classes cover extracurricular areas that normally would not be studied until third level. Students also get the opportunity to study at home as part of the Centre's online correspondence courses.
