Analytical Science - Student Life
Guest Lectures
Guest lectures for for Analytical Science
In fourth year, guest lecturers from within the School bring their research directly into the classroom. Recent topics have included pollen analysis, detecting volatile compounds from skin, and developing new approaches to breast cancer detection, giving students a front-row seat to science that is actually happening, right here at DCU.
Hand on experience with cutting edge analytical instruments
Analytical Science student in undergraduate labs using the Scanning Electron Microscope
Analytical Science students get hands-on experience with the kind of instruments used in real labs: spectrophotometers, chromatographs, mass spectrometers, and more. By the time you graduate, operating this equipment isn't something you've just read about. It's something you've done, repeatedly, from first year onwards.
Get a Head Start on Your Career
Where analytical science takes you
As part of the Analytical Science degree, you'll have the opportunity to complete a six-month paid industry placement through DCU's INTRA programme. Past AS students have secured roles across a wide range of organisations, from environmental agencies and government laboratories to pharmaceutical companies and food science industries, gaining real experience and building a professional network before they've even graduated.
Chemistry Competitions
Eurachem winners from the Analytical Science programme
The Eurachem Analytical Measurement Competition brings together science students from across Ireland to test their practical lab skills against the best. AS students compete in teams, tackling complex real-world analytical challenges under pressure, and our students have a strong track record of winning.
It's a fantastic addition to your CV, and a chance to network with industry professionals before you even graduate.
