Undergraduate Overview

The School of Chemical Sciences at DCU offers four innovative undergraduate degrees, each designed to prepare you for a career in one of the world's most important and fast-moving industries.

All of our programmes combine strong theoretical foundations with extensive hands-on laboratory experience — you'll be working in our state-of-the-art labs from your very first semester. In third year, most students undertake a six-month INTRA work placement in industry, government, or a research institution, giving you real-world experience before you graduate. In your final year, you'll complete an original research project embedded in one of our active research groups.

Our degrees

BSc in Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences — for students interested in the science behind medicines, drug development, and the pharmaceutical industry, one of Ireland's largest employers.

BSc in Analytical Science — for students who want to understand how we measure and monitor the world around us, from food safety and environmental testing to forensic analysis and clinical diagnostics.

BSc in Environmental Science and Technology — for students who want to tackle climate change, pollution, and sustainability challenges using cutting-edge scientific tools.

BSc in Chemistry with Artificial Intelligence — Ireland's only degree combining wet lab chemistry with programming and machine learning, opening doors across pharma, data science, and research.

Not sure which to choose? Our Chemical Sciences General Entry allows you to experience all four areas in first year before specialising.
