Postgraduate studies
The School of Chemical Sciences at DCU offers excellent opportunities for research-focused postgraduate study through its MSc by Research and PhD programmes. We are home to a vibrant, collaborative research community addressing key global challenges in areas such as advanced materials, sustainable and green chemistry, diagnostics, therapeutics, nanoscience, polymer science, and environmental monitoring.
All research postgraduates in the School benefit from independent, high-quality research with a tailored programme of professional and transferable skills training. This includes opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration, industry engagement, publication, and research dissemination. The aim is to develop well-rounded researchers equipped for diverse careers in academia, industry, regulation, and innovation.
Each postgraduate student works under the supervision of expert academic staff and is supported by a research advisory panel. Many of our students are funded through national and international research grants (e.g. SFI, IRC, EU Horizon), and we regularly advertise funded projects.
How to Apply
To apply for a research postgraduate degree, prospective students should first identify a potential supervisor and discuss available projects and funding. We also encourage interested applicants to get in touch with the School’s Research Convenor for guidance and to explore the Research section of our website, which outlines key research areas, ongoing projects, and staff expertise. Applications are submitted through the DCU Postgraduate Application Portal.
