Maths Quest: Devil's Dice

9:30am, 11:00am and 12:30pm

In this one-hour session find out how maths is used in real-world settings.

Lots of puzzles and games have some interesting maths at their heart. In this session, you'll see this in practice, using Graph Theory to solve the notorious Devil's Dice puzzle. 

Sessions are suitable for a secondary school audience.

Citizen Science

6:00pm

A workshop that explores how citizens can support science to help us to protect our planet while still being able to do what we need to do to live our lives. This is an opportunity to shape research and get involved in a citizen science project.

Open to all but registration is required.

Tuesday, November 14
Real Humans, Virtual Worlds

10:00am

A two-hour workshop that explores what it means to be human in the context of Virtual Reality and stimulates creative thinking about the benefits and potential pitfalls of using VR in a series of applied settings. Experiences of VR will be an integral part of the event.

Sessions are suitable for a secondary school audience.

Plastics: Friend or Foe?

10am - 10:45am, 11am - 11:45am and 12pm - 12:45pm

In this workshop, students will learn about the good and the bad side of plastics. There will be a demonstration of the production of a biopolymer and an introduction to 3D printing.

Sessions are suitable for a secondary school audience.

Citizen Jury

Developing and facilitating a Citizen Jury to learn about and deliberate the topic of "Artificial Intelligence - opportunity or threat to humanity". A cross-section of citizens from the local community will hear from and question experts in the field and deliberate the pros and cons of AI.

Open to all but registration is required.

Sessions are on Zoom.

Wednesday, November 15
Introduction to Psychophysiology

10:00am

Using the EEG to measure cognitive processes in the human brain.

In this workshop participants will be given a demonstration on how EEG can be used to record brain activity to help us to measure and assess different cognitive functions and how this information can be linked to human behaviour. The workshop will focus on how we can obtain temporally precise measurements of how simple decisions are formed in the human brain.

Sustainability - a Discussion

A talk and roundtable discussion about water quality in Ireland and beyond, the threat from pesticides and the need to reduce plastic consumption.

These one-hour, hands-on interactive maths sessions will involve students working in teams to solve a range of logic puzzles and fun maths games.
