Excellence in Teaching President's Award Winners 2025
On May 1st, we celebrated the 2025 President's Awards for Excellence in Teaching when staff gathered to recognise and celebrate the outstanding contributions to DCU's teaching and learning environment of all those who were nominated. Congratulations to all who received awards across the categories.
Teaching Support

Teaching Support Award Winner Henry Langton, TEU
The Teaching Support award, which recognises those who make an outstanding contribution to the support of teaching without being ‘frontline’ teaching staff, was awarded to Henry Langton, Teaching Enhancement Unit.
Henry plays a vital behind-the-scenes role in enhancing the learning experience for both us lecturers and in turn our students….. what truly sets Henry apart is his patience, kindness, and sense of humour.
Henry makes the complicated and incomprehensible, uncomplicated and comprehensible with exquisite manners and grace, it is a pleasure to have his support.
New Lecturer

New Lecturer Award Winner, Christina Hannify, School of Inclusive & Special Education
The New Lecturer Category recognises relatively new lecturers and tutors for achieving excellence in teaching. This award was presented to Christina Hannify, School of Inclusive & Special Education.
Christina is an excellent role model - her content knowledge, teaching pedagogies and respect for students goes above and beyond the basic requirements. She is an excellent lecturer and above all, a kind, supportive person within DCU.
Christina is … is so full of knowledge and so determined to prepare us to be great SEN teachers.
Doctoral Supervision Award

Doctoral Supervision Award Winner Janine Bosak, DCU Business School
The Doctoral Supervision Award applies to any current DCU staff member who has supervised in DCU for more than three years, and this year's inaugural award was presented to Janine Bosak, DCU Business School.
The impact of Janine’s mentorship in enhancing the reputation of DCU is evident in the prestigious positions her former students now hold. Graduates under her supervision have achieved numerous awards such as the Pearse Walsh Medal Winner, Winner of the Emerald/EFMD Outstanding Doctoral Research Fund Award and postgraduate scholarships including IRC and O’Hare Doctoral Scholarships.

Team Teaching Award Winners DCU Futures
In the Team Category, which provides an opportunity to recognise core staff teams that provide an exceptional, innovative, or transformational contribution to the student experience, the award went to the DCU Futures Core Team.
As a team, they have actively supported innovations in teaching and learning by encouraging academics like myself to reimagine the student learning experience.
They empower staff with the tools and skill sets required to future-proof students for the future world of work.
Distinctive Approach to Teaching

Distinctive Approach to Teaching Winner, Kate Sheridan
Kate Sheridan, School of Health & Human Performance, recipient of the ‘Distinctive Approach to Teaching’ award.
Kate utilises learner centred methods to translate the complex theory of her curricula into experiential practical classes that resonate with students.
By integrating theory with clinical practice in such a student friendly manner, she fosters the development of empathetic professionals skilled in critical thinking, and the implementation of best practices in healthcare settings.
Her teaching strategy has set out to reduce environmental barriers and support expert learning in all students.
Distinctive Approach to Innovation in Assessment

Distinctive Approach to Innovation in Assessment Winners - Digital Business and Innovation team
The DCU Business School Digital Business and Innovation team received the Distinctive Approach to Innovation in Assessment award.
The BSc in Digital Business Innovation team … has worked extremely closely to meet learning outcomes through designing a variety of assessment types e.g. developing podcasts, e-portfolios, loop reflect, digital artefacts, hackathons, pitches, autonomous learning pathways and choices across assignments, digital badges coupled with traditional essay and presentations.

Overall Academic Award Winner, Paula Lehane, School of Inclusive and Special Education
This category recognises all the nominees who have excelled in their teaching and practice at DCU and was presented to Paula Lehane, School of Inclusive and Special Education.
Paula understands the importance of mapping the planned curriculum onto the interests, needs and experiences of each group each year, evidencing empathy, respect and support of students and the diversity that they bring.
Throughout her teaching on all modules and programmes, she ensures that assessment is used for formative purposes to support learning that help students to develop as independent, critical thinkers.
