Feeling swamped? Getting Organised

No Focus on your Study Time?

So you have allocated time to study. But what are you studying? What do you want to achieve?

To focus your study time, you must plan out a specific area, of an acceptable amount that is achievable.

Take for example, Irish History. The wrong thing to do would be sitting down, and starting at the start and with no idea where you are going to finish and in what time frame you are going to do it.

What you should do is:
  • Look at the area you need to study
  • Separate this area into different chapters/units/sections that possibly relate to each other.  For example, with Irish History, study the IRA’s role in the 1916 Rising. This would be one chapter.
  • Look at the amount of time you have. If you have an hour, take one chapter. If you have two hours, take two chapters and so forth…
  • What would you like to do with this information by the end of your study time? Just reading the information is not enough. Attempt to answer an essay question about it, or be able to talk about the information out loud.
