April 2024 graduations at Dublin City University

Almost 1,000 graduates will receive their parchments today

Three ceremonies are taking place in the Mahony Hall in The Helix today (Friday 5 April), and will feature students from the university’s five faculties; the DCU Business School, the Institute of Education, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Faculty of Science & Health, and the Faculty of Engineering & Computing.

This year sees the first graduates from the Master of Science in Health and Social Inclusion, the Graduate Diploma in Social, Personal and Health Education/Relationships and Sexuality Education, Máistir Ealaíon i Léann na Gaeilge agus Máistir Eolaíochta sa Bhainistíocht agus Gnó Digiteach.

Speaking ahead of the first ceremony, Prof Dáire Keogh, President of Dublin City University said:

“The graduation ceremony is one of the most important occasions in the DCU calendar.  The conferring of awards provides an opportunity for the University community to focus, with pride, on its very purpose – to educate our young people to the highest standards and to equip them with the skills and attributes required to thrive and contribute positively to our wider society.”

During his speech to graduates, he said:

“The world is going through a period of unprecedentedly rapid change and we face many global challenges. However, most of these problems are man made, and it is up to humanity to solve them.

I am confident that you, our graduates, will play your part in bringing about positive change - delivering on the DCU mission ‘to transform lives and societies’ in your communities, in your professions, in our wider society.

I reiterate my call for a lasting ceasefire in Gaza and the immediate release of all hostages.

International Student Barometer

The i-graduate International Student Barometer has found that International Students at Dublin City University are the most satisfied in Ireland with career and employment support provided.

The survey, the largest of its kind, has gathered feedback from over four million students representing 1,600 universities since 2005. The 2023 edition was completed by 120,000 students.

84% of students were satisfied with employability, 79% with careers advice from their lecturers, 76% with opportunities for work experience, 76% for general career advice, and 77% with career information.

International students at DCU also expressed the highest satisfaction levels across various campus facilities, including health services, campus food options, campus buildings, worship facilities, and learning spaces.

Speaking on the results, Director of Student Recruitment, Fiona Reynolds said

“The results of the International Student Barometer are very heartening. We’re delighted in particular to see that our ‘net promoter score’ is very high for non-EU particularly at master’s level.

This means that students are sharing their student experience in a very positive way and promoting DCU as a destination of choice for others to come to study here. Our reputation for employability continues to be a determining factor in students choosing Dublin City University.”
