DCU's Structured Mentorship Programme, is a joint initiative by the Alumni Office and the Careers Service. The programme won the Excellence in Coaching and Mentoring category at the 2018 IITD awards in April. It benefits both the participating student mentees and their graduate mentors.

The six month programme provides an opportunity for second year undergraduate students to be mentored by DCU graduates and employers through a combination of face-to-face meetings, work shadow day, email, telephone and/or Skype interactions. Although running for the past 15 years the programme has grown exponentially over the last five years.

Programme Schedule

The programme involves five main events / activities (dates and times of each to be confirmed). Mentors are not required to attend all events, but we would ask both mentors and mentees to attend the Meet and Greet and Closing Event if possible.

We are aware that it is not always possible for alumni to provide a work-shadowing day. In this circumstance, we would ask graduates to organise an extended session with their student mentee to focus on career progression, interview or CV skills, presentation skills or similar.

Time Commitments

Students and mentors make contact based on their own schedules and timetables. Time commitments for the programme are very flexible. As a general rule, we would ask graduates to make contact with their mentee twice a month for the duration of the programme.
