Last chance to register for PHELC 2024
A reminder that PHELC 2024 takes place online on Friday June 7th. The conference programme has a variety of topics of interest and this year’s keynote by Dr Jaclyn Broadbent of Deakin University promises to be particularly engaging.Jaclyn will present on her work with one first year psychology module which comprises 1500-2000 students from a range of programmes and approximately 30 tutors. Over the years, she has developed an approach to assessment with this module whereby she has designed a three-stage iterative assignment with feedback embedded between each stage. From an assessment perspective, her presentation will be informative for any module/programme but particularly for modules/programmes comprising large class cohorts. Registration is free and will close today at 6pm IST. You must register to receive the Zoom link
DCU Teaching & Learning Week 2024
Theme: Emerging Challenges & New Opportunities
Dates: September 30th - October 4th
Modes: Series of In-Person and Online Events
With rapid technological advancements and shifting societal expectations, many challenges arise for higher education. This year’s Teaching and Learning Week will focus on the theme of ‘Emerging Challenges and New Opportunities’. To quote Socrates, ‘The secret of change is to focus your energy not on fighting the old, but on building the new’. Such change also provides us with an opportunity to consider how we develop or redevelop the community of learning. We have opportunities to reflect on, for example, how we engage students in teaching, learning and assessment; how we plan for and design active learning; how we engage as a community of educators, and how we connect teaching and learning with the wider community and society.
Thus, we are delighted to invite staff from all faculties to share their experiences of emerging challenges and new opportunities in teaching, learning, and assessment. We are looking to hear from anyone who is willing to share insights with other educators, ideally using evidence from your own experience or the experiences of colleagues, students, and/or the educational research literature, even if those ideas have not yet been fully developed. We are particularly interested in sharing practical examples focused on developing student engagement; communities of learning and/or practice and increasing DCU's impact in our local and global communities. These specific examples can inspire and inform teaching and learning practices across all university departments.
If interested in sharing your work, please complete the call for contributions form by Friday July 19th and a member of the Teaching Enhancement Unit will get back to you asap. An early response would be much appreciated.
We look forward to hearing your ideas and seeing you during T&L week! More details to follow over the coming months.

Loop grade visibility
Many of you may wish to make grades in your Loop Gradebook now visible to student. A minor bug may leave grade items still invisible to students even though they appear visible to you. Hiding and then showing the grade items in your Gradebook once more should resolve the issue. A case of “turning it off and on again!”
