Workshops for September 2013

Moodle 2 : Weekly Workshops

The move to Moodle 2 offers a huge opportunity for lecturers to improve both the student and lecturer experience. Lecturers can if they wish ignore all the new changes and use moodle in the same manner as they have in the past.

However one of the consequences of this move to the new Moodle requires each lecturer transfer their courses themselves. This process takes on average 5 minutes per course. This workshop will show lecturers how to transfer their course to the new Moodle instance

By the end of this session participants will be able to:

  • learn how to back up their Moodle files
  • set up their new course
  • locate a series of Moodle 2 resources

The LIU will facilitate weekly workshops each Monday throughout August and September.  Staff should register at the following:

September 17th 2013: Managing Assignments through Moodle

Managing assignments can be very time consuming and cumbersome tasks. Typical questions a lecturer is faced with: Have all the students made a submission? did everybody submit before the deadline? how can I give feedback to all of my students in a practical way?

Furthermore continuous assessment may result in you having to weight assessments differently, thereby creating the headache of converting the actual grade from each assignment into a percentage of the students final mark towards their exam.

This session will show staff how to simply get Moodle to solve all of those problems. The session is aimed towards lecturing staff.

By the end of this session participants witll be able to:

  • embed rubrics and marking guides into their assignments within Moodle
  • track all of their assignment submissions
  • use Moodle gradebook to manage all of the grades and their associated weighting

  • set up a quiz on Moodle
  • create a variety of question types
